What it is
AfricaNXT serves as a platform to showcase the makers, artists, creatives and doers transforming Africa. The week-long festival couples exhibitions with public programming that boldly highlights the work of Africa’s next cadre of visionaries. AfricaNXT is a fertile ground for NEXT level ideas rooted in collaboration. From the decor to featured workshops, AfricaNXT serves as a key example of how we can do more and go further together.

Where it’s happening
Located at the Landmark Centre, during SMW Lagos, the #africanxt pavilion is where African creatives take centerstage. Through conversations, installations and immersive programming #africanxt showcases African ingenuity in its many iterations.
Collaboration is what fuels AfricaNXT's programming and exhibitions. AfricaNXT collaborators serve as our “council of curators” and will lead a variety of exciting programs and experiences throughout the week.
During Afrobeats N Eats we’re tapping an awesome group of food enthusiasts, chefs and cultural mavens to lead intimate conversations on the future of food in Africa and the continent’s impact on global food culture. Chop N Chat will also feature The Chef’s Table where attendees discuss what inspires their favorite chef's while learning tips and tricks to take their cooking to the next level. 12 DJs/Producers from across the continent collaborate to create the ultimate mixtape. #africanxt attendees experience the mixtape live at this NXT level ‘listening party’ powered by Silent Disco. AFRIKA21 Soundklash will be available as a free digital download post AfricaNXT.
Virtually African’ pushes the boundaries and the thinking around the African experience. Featuring the work of African filmmakers using virtual reality to tell their stories, ‘Virtually African’ showcases how African artists are geniously collaborating to blend art and technology.
Collaboration is a key aspect of innovation. Collaborate x Innovate workshops are rooted in design thinking and experimentation. Facillitators put forth a problem and lead attendees thorough a series of activities to work to a solution and reach a common goal.
The #africaNXT studio will host hands-on workshops where attendees have the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with local artists, designers, and creatives. Studio programming and experiences are meant to be informative, transformative and inspirational. The #africanxt studio also serves as a place to connect and network with like-minded individuals
Mobile library meets speakeasy, #africanxt in print is a popup literary experience featuring the works of forward thinking authors, afro-futurists and all around awesome Africans who use their pen/words to do dope sh*t. FIN.
The #africanxt market is a curated offering of innovative designers, artists and creatives from across the continent and diaspora. From local boutiques to bespoke furniture to artisanal snacks, the #africanxt marketplace delivers a one-of-a-kind shopping experience. AfricaNXT and The Assembly team up to deliver an awesome mixture of content, commerce and programming. Attendees come to shop, stay to take a jewelry making workshop and then close out the evening with food tastings or a “meet & greet” with a local designer.
Sa·lon /səˈlän/ noun - a gathering of people under the roof of an inspiring host, held partly to amuse one another and partly to refine the taste and increase the knowledge of the participants through conversation. artHERE is an initiative in collaboration with local and international African artists. Using public space as their canvas, artHERE collaborators bring art to the people through visual, experiential and audio artworks displayed throughout the #africanxt pavilion and SMW Lagos Campus. artHERE was conceptualized with the idea that art should be accessible and that there is an important place for art outside of galleries and museums.
Travel Africa Day brings Africans, the diaspora and global community at large together to celebrate the beauty and cultural richness of the African cities they live in and have travelled to. #travelafricaday also serves as agathering of key stakeholders in Africa's travel, tourism and hospitality industry to collaborate and discuss the future of travel.
We know that some of the best conversations happen over a shared meal. We also know that music often serves as the soundtrack for some of our most memorable moments. With this in mind, SMW Lagos pairs the two together for an epic day of unforgettable food, music, conversations and game-changing connections.
